Meet Your Therapist: Letter from Dr. Golden

First and foremost, I want to share how much it means to me that you are seeking care for yourself! Pelvic physical therapy is an area in the healthcare world that needs more attention due its lasting impact on our health and wellness. Besides treating my patients, I love participating in advocacy work to raise awareness and educate the population about the benefits of care!

I personally found the field of pelvic health after years of misdiagnoses for various health concerns — I was a student starting my Doctorate of Physical Therapy at Rutgers University in 2014 and a professor came to speak to my class about various post graduation paths within PT. During that lecture, I heard about pelvic physical therapy for the very first time.

The lecture on pelvic health began with all the functions of the pelvic floor, and the impact it can have on us if any dysfunction is present. My world immediately changed as I found a missing puzzle piece that was not investigated throughout my childhood, adolescent, and young adult years that would have answered my symptoms.

And yes, you read that correctly. Pelvic physical therapy can be for everyone and anyone with a pelvic floor, children included. I treat everyone in my practice, not just women.

Going even further back in time, throughout my undergraduate studies at Rutgers University in New Brunswick, I worked as a sexual health advocate for the Public Health Department. This experience truly ignited my passion for raising awareness, educating and promoting open discussions for areas that some may deem as being too private and sensitive - which is the opposite of what I want people to feel. We need health care professionals like myself where individuals can come and open up about all their questions and concerns, and know they are being listened to, heard, and cared for!

The intersection of my initial advocacy work and my personal experiences truly motivated me to pursue further education in pelvic health. Since graduating with my Doctorate in 2017, I have dedicated my career to this specialty. I find joy everyday helping my patients understand and improve their pelvic health to see the ever lasting effects it can have in their lives

My care comes from a true place of compassion and empathy. The pelvic floor is part of our core, and should be treated as a core body part.

I am Herman and Wallace trained for pelvic floor dysfunctions, and have postdoctoral training to perform internal and external pelvic floor muscle examinations and assessments, along with specific myofascial techniques for the pelvic floor. Not only due to I treat patients with female anatomy, but also male anatomy. I am also trained in pediatric pelvic floor conditions.

My motivation for opening Golden Pelvic Physical Therapy, LLC is to create a space that’s intimate, welcoming and personable to allow you to seek the care you deserve. I would love to work with you to help you optimize your pelvic health and wellness.

Sincerely, Dr. Jessica Golden

I started my own practice with the following goal in mind: we all deserve to have a health care practitioner that listens to us and gives us the time we need to be fully cared for. I’m here to hear YOUR story, YOUR history, YOUR worries, and YOUR goals.

Care will not just be focused on strengthening or stretching certain muscles, but incorporating your overall health, history, concerns, lifestyle, day to day activities, and personal goals.
